We have presented the MiRi initiative to link policy and economy with sustainable mobility for all, physical and mental health, and sport through reopening cross-border inter-regional railways together with the proposal of building long-distance bicycling paths along these cross-border inter-regional rails for the first time in May 2017, three years ago. In August 2018 we have formalised the initiative by grounding the Mura's institute for infrastructure development. In 2020 we will organise Symposium :||: Sustainable infrastructure as a bridge to connect cities and regions and in spring 2021 the Alps Adria Academy Active Mobility Conference. To the conference on active mobility we wish to bring together scientist, students, policymakers, environmental advocates, urban and regional planners, the media and not least concerned citizens. With the conference we wish to contribute to the sustainable cross-border mobility for all along the beautiful regions of the Mura and Drava rivers, that together with the Danube river form one of the great wetlands of the world – the Amazon of Europe.
